Designing for Growth
Elevating Quokka's branding through a world-class redesign
Overview
Establishing a strong digital brand starts with delivering a best-in-class user experience. Quokka’s newly redesigned website for Australia, Japan, and the USA features intuitive navigation, immersive product showcases, and bespoke configuration options.
This comprehensive overhaul resolved UX inconsistencies and global branding challenges, elevating the brand and setting new e-commerce standards worldwide.
My Role
As the Design Lead, I oversaw the global e-commerce redesign, identified problems with the customer service team, analysed shopper behaviour using Contentsquare, and developed a strategy with project managers.
I also defined an iterative test plan and used Usertesting.com for usability and navigation tree testing to enhance the user experience and global brand presence.
Problems
Quokka faced significant UX inconsistencies and disparate UI patterns, leading to a fragmented user experience and inconsistent branding across regions. This damaged the brand’s image, eroded customer trust, and lacked a premium look and feel, forcing the company to compete with other brands by relying on discount strategies.
Solutions
We created a global design system to ensure consistency across regions. Collaborating with the customer service team, we identified problem areas and analysed shopper behaviours using Contentsquare.
We validated design decisions with Baymard research findings and applied high-performing e-commerce designs. Through user testing and industry best practices, we optimised the homepage, category, and product detail pages, and developed a seamless checkout experience.
Enhancements to the UI library and design system improved design efficiency and ensured brand consistency.
Outcomes
While it's too early for definitive results, initial feedback indicates outstanding outcomes, with the Quokka site well-positioned for future growth and customer engagement.

Future Job Search
Redefining job search with a modern, user-centric platform
Overview
In 2024, I served as a Product (UX/UI) Designer at the Department of Employment, Australia, where I collaborated with a team of three designers on a transformative project. Our goal was to conceptualise the future job search portal, set to replace the current Jobactive platform.
This new portal aims to streamline job searching and provide Australians with enhanced tools for exploring employment opportunities and career pathways.
My Role
As a Product (UX/UI) Designer at the Department of Employment, Australia, I collaborated within an agile, cross-functional team to develop a user-focused concept for a new job search portal.
I worked closely with key stakeholders to align design solutions with strategic objectives, ensuring seamless communication and the clear translation of design ideas into actionable outcomes.
Problems
The existing Jobactive platform suffers from a complex onboarding process, unclear instructions, and an outdated design with cluttered pages, all of which contribute to user frustration and inefficiency. These challenges hinder user engagement and make the job search process unnecessarily difficult.
A modern, user-centric portal is needed to streamline the experience, enhance engagement, and better support job seekers in finding employment and progressing in their career paths.
Solutions
To improve the Jobactive platform, we proposed a user-centred redesign focused on modern web standards.
The new portal will feature a simplified onboarding process with step-by-step guides, clear instructions in plain language, and a clean, minimalist design to enhance readability and engagement. Key updates include personalised job recommendations, improved search functionality, and a streamlined application process.
Additionally, integrated resources for skills development and an AI-powered mock interview feature will further support job seekers in their employment journey.
Outcomes
The funding for the new job search portal was approved, resulting in the launch of Workforce Australia on July 4, 2022.
This modern, user-focused platform replaced Jobactive, offering streamlined navigation, personalised job recommendations, and an AI-powered interview mock feature, greatly improving user satisfaction and job search outcomes.
